Background:

Rina Dewri, born in 1972 in a rural village, is one of the senior producers at the Biborton Handmade Paper Project. She grew up in a financially struggling family, with her father working as a farmer. As the eldest of six siblings, Rina was unable to attend school due to the family’s financial situation. At 18, Rina married Mr. Alil Dewri, a van puller, who struggled to earn enough to support their growing family.

Journey to Work:

In 1990, Rina and her husband had their first child, and Rina began dreaming of providing a better future for her children, especially in education. Motivated to improve her family’s circumstances, she approached the Biborton Management in December 1993 and joined the organization as a paper-making producer, during its early stages.

Skill Development:

In 1996, Rina’s daughter Antara was born, and in 2002, Rina transitioned to the product-making section at Biborton. There, she learned to craft a variety of paper-based items, including notebooks, photo albums, frames, greeting cards, gift bags, and holiday decorations. Biborton has consistently supported Rina through fair wages, training, loans, and annual bonuses. She also benefits from a provident and gratuity fund and has received wage advances to support her children’s education.

Family Achievements:

Rina’s dedication has paid off, as her son completed a course in Dental Technology, and her daughter, Antara, is now 23 and pursuing a nursing course in Dhaka. Rina is proud of her children’s accomplishments and grateful for the support she received from Biborton, Prokritee, Ten Thousand Villages USA, Canada, and other buyers who have helped her family thrive.
