Background:

Lucia Biswas, a talented date leaf artisan, lives in Shimulia, Jessore District, Bangladesh. Now 45 years old, she got married at 21 to Mr. Livio Biswas, who worked for a local NGO with limited income. Raising two young daughters on a meager income became increasingly challenging. Determined to support her family, Lucia turned to her generational skill in crafting date leaf products, utilizing locally available resources to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly items worldwide.

Journey to Work:

In 2015, Lucia introduced her creative date leaf products to HEED Handicrafts. Impressed by her innovation and craftsmanship, HEED immediately provided her with an order, marking the beginning of a fruitful partnership. Since then, Lucia has consistently delivered high-quality products, on time and with great commitment.

Challenges and Support:

Lucia’s journey was far from easy. With limited income and no immediate solutions, she relied on her skills and determination to overcome financial struggles. HEED Handicrafts played a pivotal role in her success, providing regular orders and support that helped her grow her business.

Leadership and Impact:

Today, Lucia supervises 200 women artisans who work happily under her guidance. Her husband has also joined her in this thriving venture. With increasing orders from multiple sources, Lucia’s income has significantly improved, enabling her to provide proper education and healthcare for her family.
