Gender Equity Awareness Training in Fair Trade Artisan Groups

Empowering Artisans through Gender Equality and Safe Workplaces

Project Overview:

Are you committed to promoting gender equality and safe workplaces in artisan communities? This project focuses on enhancing awareness and capacity to reduce gender discrimination among six Fair Trade Artisan group member organizations. In collaboration with Development Wheel (DEW), The People Tree Foundation – UK, Christian Aid – UK, and Christian Aid – Bangladesh, this initiative is set to run from 2022 to 2024, targeting over 900 artisans, particularly women.

  • Promotion of Gender Equality and Safe Workplaces:

    • We are working to empower artisans by combating gender-based violence and discrimination.
    • The project focuses on training and creating a replicable model for gender equity within artisan groups.

  • Capacity Building for Artisans and Stakeholders:

    • ECOTA and its members are enhancing their capacity to advocate for gender equality.
    • Twelve mid-level managers are undergoing training, with one-third in decision-making roles, to foster inclusive leadership.

  • Engagement and Empowerment of Women Artisans:

    • Each participating group has selected four peer educators, two-thirds of whom are women, to lead awareness efforts.
    • The project aims to positively impact over 900 individuals, with more than 90% being female artisans.
